Meta ads for B2B: yes, really
Your VP of Finance doesn't stop being a VP of Finance when they open Instagram. Meta just can't find them by title the way LinkedIn can, and the scoreboard shows it: Dreamdata's 2026 report put Meta's B2B ROAS at 51% to LinkedIn's 121%.
> Meta ads can work for B2B when you stop trying to target job titles and start feeding Meta better signals. Use Advantage+ campaigns with first-party audiences, run Instant Forms or site conversions, and send CRM outcomes back through the Conversions API so Meta optimizes for qualified leads instead of cheap form fills.
Ask a room of B2B marketers about Meta and you'll hear one of two things. "Our buyers aren't on Facebook." Or "We tried it, got 400 leads, and sales said none of them were real."
The first is wrong. The second is real, and fixable. Meta is a different machine from LinkedIn: weaker on who someone is at work, much stronger at finding more people like the ones who already converted. Feed it the right signal and it can earn a place in the plan. Feed it form fills and it will happily find you more form fills.

| Question | Current answer |
|---|---|
| How does Meta compare for B2B ROAS? | 51%, vs. LinkedIn 121% and Google Search 67% (Dreamdata, March 2026, 3.5M+ customer journeys). |
| Cost per company influenced | Meta €128.70, Google Search €110.37, LinkedIn €70.11 (Dreamdata 2026). |
| Advantage+ by default | Sales, app and leads campaigns start with Advantage+ budget, audience and placements on. |
| Advantage+ leads | Available globally since October 2025. Meta reports 14% lower cost per lead and 10% lower cost per qualified lead on average. |
| Detailed targeting exclusions | Removed; Meta's January 2025 Marketing API update made it final. Custom audience exclusions remain. |
| Conversion leads optimization | Instant Forms only. Needs CRM events via the Conversions API, 200+ leads a month and a target stage converting at 1% to 40%. |
Read the Dreamdata numbers carefully. Meta looks worse on ROAS and cost per company influenced, across a sample that is mostly B2B companies with mature attribution. That's a fair warning, not a verdict. Averages hide the accounts where Meta works well, usually ones with broad markets, lower price points or strong first-party data.
// 02 · the briefingHow does B2B targeting actually work on Meta?
Here's the honest version. Meta's detailed targeting still lists work demographics like job titles, employers and industries. But that data comes from what people choose to put on their profiles, and plenty of professionals never update their Facebook job field. You can target it. You shouldn't trust it the way you trust LinkedIn's.
Meta has also been steadily taking manual controls away. Its January 2025 Marketing API update removed detailed targeting exclusions, citing an advertiser test where median cost per conversion was 22.6% lower without them. Existing ad sets keep their exclusions only until someone edits them. Custom audience exclusions, like your customer list, still work.
So the B2B targeting playbook on Meta looks different:
- First-party lists are the strongest input. Upload customers, open opportunities and target account contacts as custom audiences. Use them for retargeting, as exclusions, and as seeds.
- Lookalikes and Advantage+ audience do the finding. Meta is very good at "more people like these." Give it a list of your best customers, not all your leads.
- Website and engagement retargeting is the reliable workhorse. People who visited your pricing page or watched 50% of a video are already qualified by behavior.
- The creative does the filtering. If targeting can't exclude the wrong people, your ad has to. More on that below.
On LinkedIn you choose the audience. On Meta you describe the outcome and the audience chooses itself. Different game, different controls.
What is Meta Advantage+, and should B2B use it?
Advantage+ is Meta's name for its automation features. In early 2025, Meta reworked campaign setup so sales, app and leads campaigns apply Advantage+ by default rather than making you pick an "Advantage+ campaign" type up front. Along the way, Advantage+ shopping campaigns were renamed Advantage+ sales campaigns.
A campaign counts as Advantage+ when three levers stay on:
| Lever | What it does | B2B take |
|---|---|---|
| Advantage+ campaign budget | Moves budget between ad sets at the campaign level | Fine once you have enough conversions per ad set to learn from |
| Advantage+ audience | Treats your audience inputs as suggestions and expands beyond them | Works only if the conversion signal is good. Otherwise it expands toward cheap leads |
| Advantage+ placements | Delivers across Meta's apps and the Audience Network | Watch placement reports; low-intent placements can inflate lead volume |
Restrict the audience or split budgets at the ad set level and the Advantage+ indicator turns off. Meta made Advantage+ leads campaigns available globally in October 2025 and reported 14% lower cost per lead and 10% lower cost per qualified lead on average. Averages across all advertisers, mostly not B2B. Test it against a controlled campaign before you trust it.
Advantage+ is a bit like blast processing on the old console box: a real capability with a great name, and the result still depends on what you feed it. For B2B, what you feed it is the conversion event.
// 04 · versusMeta lead forms vs. your landing page: which wins?
| Instant Forms | Your landing page | |
|---|---|---|
| Friction | Very low, fields prefilled from the profile | Higher, the person has to load a page and type |
| Typical volume | Higher | Lower |
| Typical quality | Mixed; prefill makes accidental and low-intent leads easy | Usually higher; the person chose to keep going |
| Context you can give | A short intro and questions | As much as the offer needs |
| Conversion leads optimization | Supported | Not supported; optimize for website conversions instead |
Meta has been adding quality controls to Instant Forms: SMS phone verification, a work email requirement and address validation in testing. It also lets a single campaign collect leads through both website and Instant Forms, choosing the format per person.
For B2B, the pattern that shows up in most accounts is that Instant Forms win on cost per lead and lose on cost per qualified lead, unless you add friction on purpose: a qualifying question, a higher-intent form type, or a work email requirement. Landing pages win when the offer needs explaining. If you go the page route, the page has to continue the ad's promise word for word. Someone who tapped "Get the 2026 payroll compliance checklist" should land on the checklist, not your homepage.
Cheapest lead is a vanity metric with a nice haircut. Report cost per qualified lead or don't report.
How does conversion leads optimization work with your CRM?
This is the single biggest lever for B2B on Meta. By default, a leads campaign optimizes for leads, so Meta finds people likely to submit a form. The conversion leads performance goal optimizes for people likely to become a later-stage lead, using outcomes you send back from your CRM.
Meta's requirements, from its Conversions API for CRM documentation:
- Instant Forms only. Website leads aren't supported for this goal.
- At least 200 leads per month recommended.
- A target stage converting at 1% to 40% of leads, such as sales qualified.
- Upload CRM events at least once a day.
- The target stage has to happen within 28 days of the lead being generated.
- Store the 15 to 17 digit Meta Lead ID in your CRM so events match back. Email, phone or click IDs can substitute.
Integrations are getting easier. In October 2025, Meta announced direct Conversions API lead events from Salesforce Sales Cloud and a Zapier integration with up to 100,000 free lead events a month.
The 28 day window is the B2B catch. If your sales qualification takes six weeks, pick an earlier stage, such as "meeting booked" or "marketing qualified after enrichment," that reliably predicts the later one. For website-based programs, the same principle applies with server-side events. Our Meta Conversions API for B2B guide covers that setup step by step.
// 06 · payloadWhat creative works for B2B on Meta?
On LinkedIn, people are in work mode. On Meta, they're in their own life and you're interrupting it. The creative has to earn the stop and, because targeting is looser, do the qualifying too.
- Call out the audience in the first line or frame. "For finance teams closing books in Excel" filters better than any interest you can pick.
- Show the work, not the logo. Product screens, a real person explaining a problem, a before and after of a workflow.
- Build for vertical video and short attention. Most Meta inventory is mobile and fast-scrolling. Assume no sound and put the point in captions.
- Give Meta variety. Advantage+ placements and creative tools need several formats and angles to work with. One static image isn't a test.
- Lead with useful offers. Templates, checklists and calculators usually beat "Book a demo" for cold Meta traffic.
Should your B2B team run Meta ads?
Meta tends to fit when:
- Your buyer is broad (small business owners, managers across many industries) rather than a narrow title at named accounts.
- You have, or can build, a CRM connection that sends qualified outcomes back.
- You want cheaper reach and retargeting around a LinkedIn or search program.
It tends to struggle when you sell six-figure contracts to a few hundred accounts and can't send qualification signal back within a month. For how Meta fits alongside LinkedIn and search, see the B2B paid social strategy pillar.
Where this breaks
- Low lead volume. Under about 200 leads a month, conversion leads optimization has little to learn from.
- Long sales cycles. The 28 day window doesn't fit many enterprise deals.
- Platform-reported lifts are averages. Meta's Advantage+ figures span all advertisers. Your result is the only one that counts.
- Automation keeps expanding. Meta has removed manual controls more than once. Expect more changes, and recheck any setup advice older than a few months.

FAQ
Do Meta ads work for B2B?
They can, but usually as a cost-efficient reach and retargeting channel rather than a precision targeting one. Dreamdata's 2026 report found a 51% ROAS for Meta across its B2B customers, versus 121% for LinkedIn and 67% for Google Search.
Can you target job titles on Meta?
Meta's detailed targeting still lists work-related demographics such as job titles, employers and industries, but they rely on what people add to their profiles. Many B2B advertisers get better results from first-party lists and broad targeting with strong conversion signals.
What are Meta Advantage+ campaigns?
Advantage+ is Meta's automation layer. For sales, app and leads campaigns it combines Advantage+ campaign budget, Advantage+ audience and Advantage+ placements by default. Meta made Advantage+ leads campaigns available globally in October 2025.
What is conversion leads optimization on Meta?
It is a performance goal for Instant Form lead ads that optimizes for leads likely to reach a later CRM stage. It requires sending CRM events through the Conversions API, and Meta recommends at least 200 leads per month.
Should B2B advertisers use Meta lead forms or a landing page?
Instant Forms usually produce more, cheaper leads with lower average quality. Landing pages produce fewer, often better qualified leads. Test both and judge on cost per qualified lead from your CRM, not cost per lead.
Can you exclude interests in Meta ads?
No. Meta removed detailed targeting exclusions, confirmed in its January 2025 Marketing API update. You can still exclude custom audiences, such as customer lists or existing leads.
