Paid social strategy for B2B: LinkedIn, Meta and Reddit
Paid social for B2B is a small-audience sport. LinkedIn won't even serve a company-list campaign until it matches at least 300 members, and the rest of the playbook follows from that constraint.
> A B2B paid social strategy uses LinkedIn to reach exact companies and roles, Meta for cheaper reach and retargeting of known audiences, and Reddit for practitioners discussing the problem. Build audiences from first-party lists, match the offer to buying stage, retarget with frequency limits, and measure on CRM pipeline.
Search waits for buyers to raise their hand. Paid social goes and finds them, which is useful in B2B, where most of your market isn't shopping on any given day. It's also where budgets disappear fastest, because "reach" is easy to buy and hard to connect to revenue.
Three platforms do most of the B2B work right now: LinkedIn, Meta and Reddit. Each has one job it's good at and a few it will happily take your money for anyway. Here's how to tell the difference, build audiences, pick offers and prove any of it turned into pipeline.
// 01 · telemetryWhere does each platform fit in a B2B paid social strategy?
| Meta | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Best job | Reach exact accounts and roles | Cheap reach and retargeting | Reach practitioners in context |
| Targeting strength | Company, job function, seniority, matched lists | Pixel audiences, uploaded lists, algorithmic reach | Communities, interests, keywords |
| Main weakness | Higher cost per click | Thin, self-reported job and employer data | Audience allergic to sales pitches |
| Native lead capture | Lead Gen Forms | Instant forms | Lead Generation Ads |
| CRM feedback | Conversions API | Conversions API for CRM integration | Conversions API (via partners and developers) |
The short version: LinkedIn is the scalpel, Meta is the amplifier and Reddit is the room where your users talk to each other. Most B2B programs should start with LinkedIn, add Meta for retargeting, and test Reddit when the product has an active practitioner community. If you're still deciding whether paid social belongs ahead of search at all, start with our B2B PPC playbook.
// 02 · the briefingHow do you build B2B audiences on paid social?
LinkedIn: start from accounts, not interests
LinkedIn's advantage is that you can target the companies you actually want to sell to. Upload a company list and LinkedIn matches it against LinkedIn Pages to build a segment, which takes 24 to 48 hours. The segment needs at least 300 matched members to serve, and LinkedIn recommends lists of at least 1,000 companies. CSV uploads top out at 20MB or 300,000 records.
Layer job function and seniority on top of the list rather than long lists of job titles. Titles vary wildly between companies, so title targeting tends to miss people and bloat with irrelevant matches at the same time. Check the forecasted audience after each layer. Stack too many filters and you end up below the floor, or with an audience so small the platform can't deliver evenly.

Meta: lean on what you already know
Meta won't reliably find "VP of Finance at a 500-person company." Its job and employer options lean on whatever people typed into their profiles, which for most B2B buyers is somewhere between stale and blank. What it can do is reach your customer list, your prospect list and your site visitors at a fraction of the usual LinkedIn cost, and find people who resemble them. For B2B, that makes first-party data the starting point: upload CRM lists, install the pixel and send server-side events. Cold interest targeting is the last resort, not the first move. Our Meta ads for B2B guide covers the setup.
Reddit: target the conversation
Reddit targeting runs on communities, interests and keywords. Social Media Today reported in October 2024 that keyword targeting, previously limited to conversation placements, expanded to feed ads too. For B2B, start with the communities where your users ask for help, and add keywords that describe the problem in their words. The Reddit ads for B2B post walks through it.
The best B2B audience on any platform is the one you uploaded. Everything else is the algorithm's best guess about who you meant.
What creative works for B2B paid social?
On social, creative is the targeting you control. Nobody searched for you. The ad gets a second or two to beat a vacation photo and a hot take about return-to-office.
- Lead with the problem, not the product. "Month-end close still takes 9 days?" stops a finance lead faster than a product name and a feature list.
- One claim per ad. If the ad needs three ideas, it needs to be three ads.
- Make it look native. On LinkedIn, posts that read like a person wrote them tend to blend in better than polished banners. On Reddit, anything that looks like a TV spot gets ignored or roasted.
- Put people in front. LinkedIn's Thought Leader Ads let a company sponsor posts from employees, industry experts, customers or creators. A founder or practitioner explaining the problem often reads as more credible than a brand page saying the same thing.
- Refresh before fatigue sets in. Small B2B audiences see the same ad quickly. Plan new variants on a schedule instead of waiting for performance to drop.
What offers work for B2B paid social?
Match the offer to how warm the audience is. Social audiences are mostly cold, so a demo request is usually too big an ask for a first touch.
| Audience temperature | Who | Offer |
|---|---|---|
| Cold | Target accounts that have never engaged | Ungated insight: a short video, a data point, a strong opinion |
| Warm | Engaged with ads or visited the site | Benchmark report, template, calculator, webinar |
| Hot | Visited pricing or product pages, open opportunities | Demo, trial, customer story, comparison |
Native lead forms change the math because they cut friction. LinkedIn's Lead Gen Forms are pre-filled with profile data and available for Sponsored Content and Message Ads. Reddit's Lead Generation Ads, launched in public beta in July 2024, auto-populate the email field, as reported by Search Engine Land. On Meta, instant forms offer a Higher intent form type that adds a review step before submitting, per practitioner guides to the setup flow.
The trade-off: easier forms bring more leads and more low-quality ones. Add one qualifying question, and feed lead quality back to the platform so it learns which leads matter.
// 05 · orbitHow should you retarget B2B audiences across platforms?
Retargeting is where B2B paid social usually earns its keep. The people who already visited your site or engaged with an ad are a small, warm group, and they're the cheapest pipeline you'll ever buy if you don't annoy them.
- Install every tag. LinkedIn website retargeting needs a working Insight Tag, and a retargeting segment needs at least 300 members before a campaign can use it.
- Segment by intent. A pricing page visitor and a blog reader shouldn't see the same ad. Split audiences by the pages they visited.
- Sequence the story. Proof first (a customer result), then objection handling (security, integration, switching cost), then the direct ask.
- Run it on more than one platform. The same person checks LinkedIn at work and Instagram at night. Meta is usually the cheaper way to add frequency.
- Exclude aggressively. Current customers, open opportunities that sales is already working (unless sales asks for air cover), employees and recent converters.
And cap frequency. Unlimited retargeting turns your brand into the ghost from Pac-Man, chasing the same small audience around the maze until they'd rather lose a life than click.
Retargeting remembers everyone who visited. Your best prospects would prefer you remembered a little less often.
How do you measure B2B paid social?
On pipeline, over a full sales cycle. Platform-reported leads are where measurement starts, not where it ends.
- LinkedIn: the Conversions API is a server-to-server connection for online and offline conversions, so CRM events like qualified leads can flow back. Matching runs on identifiers such as SHA-256 hashed email or a Lead Gen Form response ID.
- Meta: the Conversions API for CRM integration sends lead stages from your CRM back to Meta. Meta lists requirements of at least 200 leads a month, uploads at least once a day and conversion events within 28 days of the lead.
- Reddit: run the Reddit Pixel plus Reddit's Conversions API, which most major data and tag-management platforms now connect to. UTM-tag every ad so Reddit traffic is a clean segment in your analytics and CRM.
Then accept that last-click reports will undercount social. A target account that saw six LinkedIn ads and then searched your brand name gets credited to search. Watch three things alongside platform numbers: branded search volume, direct traffic from target accounts and a "how did you hear about us" field on your forms. Self-reported answers are messy, and they still catch influence that attribution tools miss.
Where this breaks
- Very small markets. If your total market is a few hundred companies, LinkedIn's 300-member floor and Meta's learning needs leave little room. Mix in sales-led outreach.
- Lead volume thresholds. Meta's CRM optimization asks for at least 200 leads a month. Many B2B advertisers won't reach it, so they're optimizing on thinner signals.
- Reddit data for B2B. Public B2B performance data on Reddit is thin, and the published wins are mostly platform-shared case studies. Treat early results as directional.
Where should a B2B team start with paid social?
Start with LinkedIn retargeting and a tight account list, because both reach people you already know matter. Add Meta retargeting next for cheaper frequency on the same audiences. Test Reddit once you've confirmed your buyers actually talk about the problem there.
Before any of it, make sure CRM stages flow back to each platform. Paid social without a feedback loop optimizes toward whoever clicks, and in B2B that's rarely who signs.

FAQ
What is a B2B paid social strategy?
It is a plan for using paid ads on social platforms such as LinkedIn, Meta and Reddit to reach business buyers. It covers which audiences to target on each platform, what creative and offers to run, how to retarget and how to measure results against pipeline.
Is LinkedIn or Meta better for B2B ads?
They do different jobs. LinkedIn targets by company, job function and seniority, so it suits precise account and role targeting. Meta usually reaches people more cheaply, but its job and employer data is thin and self-reported, so it works best for retargeting and uploaded lists.
What is the minimum audience size for LinkedIn ads?
LinkedIn requires at least 300 matched members for matched audiences such as company lists and website retargeting segments. For company lists, LinkedIn recommends uploading at least 1,000 companies.
Do Reddit ads work for B2B?
They can when your buyers discuss the problem on Reddit. Reddit targets by community, interest and keyword, and launched Lead Generation Ads in public beta in July 2024. Creative needs to read like a useful peer post rather than a sales pitch.
How do you measure B2B paid social?
Send CRM stages back to each platform, through LinkedIn's Conversions API and Meta's Conversions API for CRM integration, and judge spend on qualified pipeline over a full sales cycle. Expect last-click reports to undercount social.
